New Exhibition
This exhibition brings together ceramics by Stephen Murfitt along with mixed media work by Terry Beard. Both artists live and work from the Huntingdonshire Fens, which informs and inspires much of their work. Stephen’s pieces are hand-built and Raku fired, with an emphasis on form. ‘My work is driven by an obsession with clay and its’ versatility. I became addicted to Raku because of the direct involvement with each stage of the process. I make ceramic forms and vessels, and the combination of the making, glazing and firing results in unique pieces.’ Terry works with a range of materials and processes to make work which is evocative of landscape but retains an element of abstraction. ‘I am inspired by elements in the environment, and this informs the development of my work. I explore ways of conveying a sense of place using abstract marks and areas of colour. I use a range of media including screen printing, collage and acrylics.’
