Artists > Rosemary Tolkien
Rosemary Tolkien, a fine art graduate of Lincoln University and a former
secondary school teacher, specialises in architectural painting inspired by the
unique charm of Stamford where she now lives, as well as places she has
recently visited.
She works with oils
and household emulsion paint to give a decorative design quality to what she
sees around her, creating a flat print-like quality in many of her paintings
where colour and shape are all important. Her work is often a study in the
quality of light: reflections in windows and water, the sharp shadows cast by
buildings on a sunny day, patterns of light on everyday objects.
