Melissa Robinson New Exhibition
Monday, 24 April 2017
Growing up in the Suffolk I was surrounded by my mother and grandfather's paintings and from a young age, my sisters and I were encouraged to create art. I developed a passion for painting and went on to study Fine Art at University, where I discovered abstract painting.
My process is an experiment into how volatile materials react with each other, resulting in beautiful and unique organic forms often reminiscent of cellular structures, aerial photographs and landscapes. Colour is an important tool used to emphasis the beauty created by the chemical reactions. When a painting has started, it's final outcome is a mystery. Because of the uncontrollable nature of the substances, a struggle of control between painter and paint takes place, making it an art of restraint.
