I started out as a performance artist. Then I became a teacher, after that I spent many years in the animation industry as an animator, designer and director. For my final years of gainful occupation I returned to teaching in Peterborough where I specialised in th delivery of animation. For the past few years I have returned to my first love; drawing and painting from observation. I work in various media although lately I have spent most of my time working on the iPad. I relish working in representational and abstract ways and I have tried to resist developing a style though I think my background in cartooning and animation has given me a feel for line and shape. The iPad gives me a great deal of freedom and a vast array of mark-making possibilities. It lacks, though, the visceral sensations of scratching and scraping with pencil and paint. Sometimes I combine the two methods by importing my drawings and developing them further on the iPad.
The Great Fen is close by and so are two of England’s finest cathedrals so I spend an enormous amount of time lurking in the shade of trees or Gothic arches.
